Multiple northern Queensland locations were shaken by a magnitude 4.8 earthquake off the coast.
The quake was recorded off the coast of Bowen, in the Whitsunday region, just after 5.11pm on Wednesday.
Residents in Bowen, Mackay, Townsville, Ayr and Airlie Beach were among those to feel tremors.
Terry Stone, from Bowen, told the Townsville Bulletin that he ‘felt a bit of a rumble’ that sounded like thunder.”The house shook a little bit, it felt like big thunder close by, I didn’t realise what it was,” he said.
There have not been any reports of damage to homes or injuries and there is no threat of a tsunami.
