A Ukrainian plane,Boeing 737-800, crushed at 06:12 local time (02:42 GMT) shortly after takeoff on Wednesday 8 killing all passengers and crew on board. The Ukrainian International Airlines flight was carrying 167 passengers and 9 crew members. According to Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Vadym Prystaiko, there were 63 Canadians, 82 Iranians and 11 Ukrainians on board along with 3 Germans, 4 Afghan,10 Swedish and 3 British citizens.
The plane had been delayed by almost an hour from taking off from Tehran’s Imam Khomeini International Airport and never made it above 8000 feet, before crashing between Parand and Shahriar just minutes after takeoff, according to data from flight-tracking website FlightRadar24.
Iranian media reported the cause of the crush as being a technical issue ,however, Ukranian officials later refuted this claims and declined to offer a cause stating that the investigation is still ongoing.
The crash came hours after Iran launched a ballistic missile attack targeting two bases in Iraq hosting US forces in retaliation for the US killing of a top Iranian commander.
Rescue workers laid out lines of body bags and personal effects lay shrewn on the ground along the mangled debris of the plane. Ukraine has organised special planes to fly bodies of the deceased to Iran.
