Suicide bomb in Mogadishu kills at least 70 people and leaves more than 50 injured
A truck bomb exploded at a busy security checkpoint in Mogadishu Saturday,28, morning killing at least 70 people. The attack happened at about 8 a.m local time.The toll could rise as scores of people were rushed to hospitals.
Government spokesman ,Ismael Mukhatar told CNN that the attacker drove his vehicle into the EX-control Afgoye checkpoint a well known junction that links the south of Somalia to the capital.
Some of the people killed were university students returning to class. Turkey’s Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu confirmed two Turkish citizens had died in the attack.
Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the attack.The most deadly attack blamed on the group was in October 2017 when a bomb-laden truck exploded next to a fuel tanker, sparking a fire that killed nearly 600 people.
The extremist group is also responsible for an attack that happened two weeks ago. At least five people were killed after the group attacked a hotel popular with lawmakers and security officials in the Somali capital.
