Body of Maeve Kennedy, granddaughter to John F Kennedy recovered
Maeve Kennedy McKean’s body was recovered Monday evening by a dive and rescue team in 25 feet of water, about 2.5 miles from her mother’s home which is close to the Chesapeake Bay. She and her 8-year-old son, Gideon, had been missing since Thursday evening, after riding in a canoe near her mother’s home.
The family had been self-quarantining when Maeve and Gideon were engaged in a kickball game that ended with one of them kicking the ball into the nearby water. They got into the canoe intending to retrieve the ball and some how got pushed by the tide into the open bay. That was the last time Mckean and her son had been seen alive. The search for her son is ongoing.
David McKean, announcing the family accident on Friday, described his wife as his “everything” and said his young son was both “brave” and “deeply compassionate”.
“It is impossible to sum up Gideon here. I am heartbroken to even have to try,” he wrote on Facebook. “I used to marvel at him as a toddler and worry that he was too perfect to exist in this world. It seems to me now that he was.”
