Jackson is a former Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Export Enforcement at the Department of Commerce’s Bureau Industry and Security (BIS). He is a partner in the Washington, D.C. office of Kelley Drye & Warren LLP, He goes by the name William J. Jackson on the website. Jackson was nominated for the post by President George W. Bush and confirmed by the U.S. Senate, his responsibilities included protecting and advancing the national security, foreign policy and economic interests of the United States.
He developed and implemented export enforcement policy at BIS and led BIS’s domestic and international export enforcement operations, which resulted in significant criminal prosecutions and administrative cases. Jackson also previously served for more than a decade as a federal prosecutor in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, the largest U.S. Attorney’s Office in the nation. He tried a broad array of cases to juries and subsequently rose through the supervisory ranks to become third in command of the Office as Executive Assistant U.S. Attorney for Operations.
