On Wednesday, March 13th, 2019 the shooting and death Frank Cali alias Franky Boy hit American and Italian news circuits. Frank Cali, a Gambino crime family boss was shot fatally outside of his Staten Island home. His full name was Francesco Cali. His death is being described by news reports as the first major New York gang and mob boss killing in more than 30 years.

Part of the disturbing nature of the news has been that Cali had been having dinner with his family. Cali was among one of the most influential members of the Gambino crime family, says news reports.

Frank Cali and Rosario Inzerillo Marriage

Cali married Rosaria Inzerillo, a sister of Pietro Inzerillo and a relative of Gambino associate Frank Inzerillo, a member of the Palermitan Inzerillo family. Their date of marriage is not on record.

Rosario Inzerillo Career

As Pietro Inzerillo’s daughter, Rosario worked at his popular restaurant, Nino’s, before marrying Cali, Italian newspaper reports say. Reports suggest that the Inzerillo-Gambino clan had been among the most influential in the Italian mob family. Cali had been a key part of the Gambino family.

According to the Italian newspaper, Corriere, Inzerillo’s father, Pietro Inzerillo, had been exiled to the United States once the Corleone mafia reportedly killed his two brothers, Totuccio and Santo in Sicily, Italy.

“The reason for killing the Inzerillo Pietro is not clear, even though he was involved with heroin trafficking internationally,” the policeman concluded in a report about the above-named events, according to Corriere.

The New York Times reports that Inzerillo and her husband, Cali resided in a quiet neighborhood in Staten Island, New York. The neighbors in the Island knew little about each other.

The New York Times reports their home as being a large red-brick, two-story, colonial style house.

A neighbor who spoke to The New York Times, Prashant Ranyal, reportedly said, “Whenever you see nice areas you feel like it’s peaceful.” Then, Rayal added, “When something like this happens you definitely have a second thought about it.”

“Nobody talks to nobody around here; it’s crazy,” another neighbor named Salvatore said, according to The New York Times. “People kind of keep to themselves. They like their privacy.”

The neighbor said their street was quiet and full of old homes. “Dead quiet all the time,” he reportedly told the newspaper.

Who was Frank Cali? Gambino Crime Family

Francesco Paolo Augusto Calì was born on March 26th, 1965 and died on March 13th, 2019. He was known as “Frank” or “Franky Boy”, was the Boss of the Gambino crime family. Law enforcement considered Cali to have been the Gambinos’ “ambassador to Sicilian mobsters” and was linked to the Inzerillo Mafia family from Palermo.
