Sen. Ted Cruz jets out to sunny Cancun as Texas shivers in the dark

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz is under fire as photos of him in an airport and a plane showing him allegedly flying to Cancun during the Arctic blast which has crippled his home state and especially his hometown of Houston, surfaced on Twitter. The photos went viral late Wednesday night, but Cruz’s office has not responded to multiple requests for comment from the Houston Chronicle.

“Cruz seems to believe there isn’t much for him to do for the millions of fellow Texans who remain without electricity/water and are literally freezing,” tweeted David Shuster, a former MSNBC anchor who broke the story.

At the time Cruz was allegedly awaiting his flight to Mexico, more than 1.3 million CenterPoint customers in Houston were without power. The temperatures in Cancun are in the 80s Thursday in Cancun, but expected to dip back into the 20s in Houston, which has sparked outrage as people give Cruz new nicknames like “Fled” Cruz” and “Flyin’ Ted” – a takeoff on Donald Trump’s former nickname for the Senator “Lyin’ Ted.”

About 600,000 remain without power as temperatures struggled to get back above the freezing mark. At least 37 have been killed across the south. The lights could be out for days or even weeks as Texas’s outmatched power companies are overwhelmed with ice, snow, and cold.

Cruz has a bullseye on his back because of his weasely criticism of other states that have undergone similar natural catastrophes.
