A suspect was taken into custody at 6:35 a.m. Sunday, February 2nd, 2019 ending a violent 12-hour standoff that resulted in the shooting death of one Clermont County Sheriff identified as Leahy and the wounding of another Chief Deputy Stratton at The Green at Royal Oaks Apartments, near Royal Oaks Golf Course. Initial reports indicates that the Suspects name is Wade Winn.

In a brief statement, Capt. Jeff Sellers of the Clermont County Sheriff’s Office said a SWAT team moved in and the suspect surrendered.
Sellers confirmed that a two-alarm fire that broke out in the apartment complex where the gunman had barricaded himself was connected to the standoff. He did not release any other details about the standoff.
The names of the deputies have not been officially released but we can confirm that the one killed is Sheriff Leahy while Chief Deputy Stratton, is in a stable condition at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

The shooter went live on his Instagram as the shooting began. There are negotiation pleads from the police in the background. In the Clip, Wade says “they already kicked in the door… I shot 2 of them..”

Wade Winn Arrest and Charges
The sheriff’s department said Winn was “admittedly suicidal” and barricaded inside his St. Andrews Drive unit in Pierce Township.
“After they endured a barrage of gunfire generated by Winn,” officials said, he was taken into custody by the Clermont County Special Response Team and the Cincinnati Police Department’s SWAT team.
Winn is charged with aggravated murder and attempted aggravated murder, according to court documents.
Winn has a record of minor crimes, including several misdemeanor marijuana convictions, dating back to 2015.
In May 2018, Winn was arrested on charges of carrying a concealed weapon, drug possession and driving with a suspended license, court records state. All of those charged were dropped.
In June, Winn was arrested for improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle. He was sentenced to five days in jail and one month of probation, according to court records.
